I can never understand why conservatives don't simplify their message. People cannot and do not care to understand how the economy works. What people want to know is that someone is looking out for them and that their "plan" will help them. It doesn't even matter if it's true, only that people believe it.
Inflation is such an interesting topic to me, both technically and politically. What is inflation? In a nutshell, it's caused by the government printing too many dollars thereby reducing the value of existing dollars. When inflation happens, a dollar can no longer buy what it used to, meaning that if you buy an apple today for $1, tomorrow that same apple might cost you $2.
All of this is well and good, but not very easy to explain, and not very easy to sell. But, if we take a step back and think about it, our message is very marketable. Who loses when inflation happens? 99% of Americans. Almost no one considers protecting themselves from inflation, no one hedges against inflation, they don't know how to and they can't afford to. Who hires high priced accountants and attorneys to protect themselves from inflation? The rich.
The rich aren't to blame, it's the politicians who promote inflation. They know that inflation robs the 99%, they just don't care.

Interesting thoughts. You're very right in that the GOP needs to simplify its message, but I don't think that's the only problem. I believe that people today have become very lax in their thinking. The American culture today has grown into one that puts more value into an internet meme that takes five seconds to make than they do a well thought-out essay on the real issue at hand. In fact, that's one of the things I find myself fighting every day in real life - people who have become addicted to cheap, "clever" arguments instead of examining the real issue. I think that's the thing that really needs to change. If we move the society to a place of actually thinking through their own political and socio-economic beliefs, then it won't matter what the political parties say - because people will check their actions and see if they line up with their beliefs.
I find it interesting that you use the 99% moniker. Are you actually of the opinion that some mega-rich group of people in the one percentile is massively conspiring against the lesser 99% of the population, or are you just using the phraseology because it's so popular at the moment?
Yeah, I used the 99% because it resonates with people, not because I believe there is some secret cabal of the 1% against them. Read the rest of the blog, and it will be clear ;)
Mkay. Just making sure you weren't one of those silly people who think that being wealthy automatically results in being horridly greedy and manipulative, and it means by default that you sneakily work with the government to gyp every decent person on the planet out of their money. :P
